30 Cup Rice Cooker

- how much rice and water do i need to use for 25 people in a 30 cup rice cooker?


A Generally, a half cup of COOKED rice is considered a SERVING. 1 cup of raw rice to 2 cups of water will yield 3 cups of COOKED rice, or 6 servings. So... do the math... 25 * .5 = 12.5 cups COOKED rice. So, 12.5 cups COOKED means approximately 4 cups raw rice and 8 cups water. That'll be 5-cents, please.

- Which rice cooker cooks brown rice in 20 mins? or 30 mins? Any longer and it's too long! Many thanks!?
I already have a rice cooker that takes about 90 mins or more(!) to cook brown rice! I'm used to my other cooker that cooks white rice in 7 mins but it doesn't cook brown rice. I know about proportions of water to rice but that differs with different cookers. I don't mind investing in a good rice cooker that cooks both white and brown rice in a SHORT time. Anything longer than 20 minutes (for approx 2 cups of rice) is really too long! If anyone can provide the Brand and model #, that would be very much appreciated. Even diff models from same brands perform differently so if you have one that cooks brown rice FAST, please let me know. Thank you!

A Sorry, but brown rice takes longer to cook because it has the bran coating on it, and white rice does not have a bran coating. Brown rice takes an average of 45 minutes to cook and white rice (regular, not parboiled) takes around 20 minutes. http://rice.cooksillustrated.com/recipes/Basic_Brown_Rice/299 There is no "rice cooker" I've ever heard of that will speed that up. A pressure cooker could work though, in speeding up the brown rice tenderizing through cooking (or you might find a rice cooker that has a pressure seal and cooks under heat and pressure).
