Please Explain and show work Q1. The forces required to make the following system in steady balanced condition are ___________.(fig0209) http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3182158/CAL/Physics/p0209.jpg A. f1= infinite mg, f2 = 1.499 mg B. f1= zero mg, f2 = 2 mg C. f1= 1.732 mg, f2 = 2 mg D. f1= 1.732 mg, f2 = 1.499 mg Q2.A stone is thrown with initial speed 30 m/s upward and forward as shown (fig0203), the horizontal component of the velocity will be approximately ____________ when it drop down to about same level as before. ( frictionless is assumed ) http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3182158/CAL/Physics/p0203.jpg A. 30 m/s B. 42.5 m/s C. 15 m/s D. 21.2 m/s Q3. Which one of the following normally consumes more power? Select it: ____________ A. turn on 15-inch television set B. switch on 100 watt fluorescence light C. switch large rice cooker on "cook" condition D. switch home portable radio on
A Q1. From the diagram, f2•sin30º = mg, so f2 = 2mg, so its either B or C. And it's not B, since if f1=0 then f1 is vertical. So C. Q2. horizontal component is 30m/s•cos45º = 21.2 m/s D. Q3. Oooh, might depend on the type of television. An old CRT tv probably wins first prize. But a newer LCD monitor might come in under the 500W or so that a rice cooker will consume. I'll go with the rice cooker. Very iffy. Hope that helps!
