Pot Rice Cooker

- why use a rice cooker instead of just using a regular old pot?
Growing up in an Asian family that had rice every night and just cooked it in a pot, rice cookers have always puzzled me. I have some white friends that treasure their rice cookers and treat it like a magical device, because they think they couldn't eat rice without a cooker. Are there any particular benefits to using a rice cooker? ._.

A I am white and cook my rice in a pot....always have...I think in a pot it taste better and is not sticky...I don't like it sticky.....Sticky ...icky.

- How do you keep rice from sticking to the bottom of a rice cooker pot?
This is one of those Japanese automatic rice cookers, and although it makes great, perfectly cooked rice, a lot of it sticks to the bottom of the pot and gets hard. I do add a little oil before cooking, but that doesn't seem to help much.

A My Japanese wife says that in her experience, rice sticks to the bottom if you open the lid as soon as the rice is cooked. If you leave the lid on for a while, it keeps more moisture in and tends not to stick. Although this can mean that the rice may need reheating. This could though depend on different types of rice cookers. And also the amount (if any) of teflon in the cooker pan.
