- how long does it take most zojirushi rice cookers to make rice?
i've heard that it takes 40- 45 mins!! i have always used cheaper ones that take 15-20 minutes and i like the rice fine. it's time to get a new cooker, and i thought i'd splurge on a zojirushi--but i won't if it really takes that long to make rice. any advice?

A It all depends on the rice, not the cooker. Don't buy sticky rice----try using jasmine rice, or another long grain rice (think Uncle Ben's) rather than a short grain which will always be sticky. The reason you wash the rice is to remove any foreign particles, a small amount of starch washes of but that does not affect the rice texture. Restaurants use industrial rice cookers (at a couple hundred bucks a pop)......feel free to ask your favorite restaurant the brand of rice they use and try it out in your Zojirushi rice cooker before you go out and buy another appliance.
